How Do I Install Otter Tail Fenders? (Step-by-Step Guide)

Otter Tail Fenders offer the largest coverage in our fat bike fender lineup at 20.4" x 7.125". Despite their size, they install quickly and securely in just seconds using simple zip tie mounting.

What You'll Need

  • Your Otter Tail Fenders
  • Zip ties (included with purchase)
  • Scissors or side cutters for trimming

Installation Steps

Step 1: Identify Front and Rear Placement

Otter Tail fenders provide maximum splash protection for your rear wheel, where most debris spray originates. You can also mount one on the front for complete coverage.

Step 2: Position the Rear Fender

  1. Hold the fender under your seat post or seat stays, positioned directly above your rear tire.
  2. The wider coverage area should extend backward to protect your back from spray.
  3. Keep the fender centered over the wheel.

Step 3: Secure with Zip Ties

  1. Thread zip ties through the fender's mounting points and around your seat post, seat tube, or seat stays.
  2. Position the fender 1-2 inches above the tire to prevent contact.
  3. Pull zip ties tight and trim the excess.

Step 4: Front Fender Installation (If Using)

Follow the same process, mounting to your fork or down tube area.

Step 5: Final Check

  • Spin both wheels to verify clearance
  • Ensure the fender is level and centered
  • Confirm zip ties are secure

What Makes Otter Tail Different

  • Largest coverage: 20.4" x 7.125" dimensions provide superior protection
  • Flexible rubber construction: Won't clunk or rattle over bumps
  • Matte black finish: Looks great and is easy to clean
  • Lightweight: Maximum coverage without adding significant weight

Installation Notes

The flexible rubber material conforms to your frame angles easily. If you're mounting on an unusual frame geometry, the material can flex to accommodate different angles.
