What Tools Do I Need to Install the Fenders?

One of the best things about Duluth Cycle fat bike fenders is how few tools you need for installation. Our fenders are designed for quick, drill-free mounting.

Tools Required by Fender Type

Phantom Fenders

Tool Required? Purpose
Pliers Yes Tightening zip ties securely
Scissors/Side Cutters Recommended Trimming excess zip tie length

FeatherLight Fenders

FeatherLight fenders require no special tools—zip ties can be tightened by hand.

Otter Tail Fenders

Scissors/Side Cutters Recommended Trimming excess zip tie length

Otter Tail fenders require no special tools—zip ties can be tightened by hand.

Tools You Do NOT Need

Unlike many aftermarket fenders, Duluth Cycle fenders require:

  • No drill — No holes to make in your frame
  • No Allen wrenches — No bolts to tighten
  • No specialty mounting hardware — Everything is included
  • No measuring tape — Pre-punched holes are positioned for you

Optional Helpful Tools

While not required, these can make installation easier:

  • Needle-nose pliers: Helpful for reaching tight spaces
  • Flush cutters: Create cleaner zip tie cuts than scissors
  • Flashlight: Useful if mounting in low-light conditions

Pro Tip

If you're installing Phantom fenders, don't skip using pliers to tighten the zip ties. The rubber material requires a more secure attachment than hand-tightening alone provides.
