My Decals Won't Peel Off the Backing Properly

Our decals are precision contour-cut, but occasionally the vinyl may not separate cleanly from the backing. Here's how to troubleshoot—and what to do if they're truly defective.

Try These Tips First

1. Peel Slowly at a Sharp Angle
Pull the backing away at a 180° angle (folding it back on itself) rather than lifting straight up. Go slowly—rushing causes tearing.

2. Start from a Corner
Gently lift one corner with your fingernail or a plastic card. Once started, the rest should follow.

3. Use the "Flip Method"
Place the decal face-down, then peel the backing paper away from the decal (rather than the decal away from the backing).

4. Warm It Slightly
If the vinyl is stiff from cold temperatures, let it warm to room temperature or use a hair dryer on low heat for a few seconds.

When to Contact Us

If the decal material tears when peeling, the cut lines aren't going through the vinyl, or the backing won't separate at all—this indicates a cutting issue.

We'll ship a replacement set that we've tested before packaging.

Proper Application

Once peeled successfully:

  1. Clean the surface with isopropyl alcohol
  2. Apply the decal and smooth from center outward
  3. Remove the transfer tape slowly at a sharp angle
